Do It Yourself And Surprise Yourself And Others

The most unique magnetic boards

You’ll need simple steel plates, but please check first if they are magnetic – aluminium or stainless steel won’t work, you’ll need steel/iron as a basis. Just do a simple test if unsure. Here are some ways to get these simple plates beautiful: The board with flowers and bees is simply covered with self-adhesive foil. You’ll find it in most DIY-markets or crafts stores. Just leave the piece of foil a bit larger than the plate itself und wrap it around the thin metal. This way you’ll get nice clean edges and the foil will last longer without loosening at the borders. Decoupage paper can be applied using white glue, just as well as news paper or wrapping paper. Please be careful to use thin paper materials, thicker ones won’t be elastic enough and the magnetism will decrease in strength. The purple plate for example is made of straw silk. The most aesthetic plate for sure is the football field. For that we first applied white glue to the plate, then used green paper napkins, separated the layers until only the coloured top one remained, ripped that to randomly sized pieces, and glued it a bit chaotically to the surface of the plate (and a bit around the edges as well). After that comes a top coat of white glue, which has to dry thoroughly. At last the field lines can be drawn with a white touch up pen. There’ll be fitting magnets for most of your creative ideas – otherwise you can just make them yourself. If you need any help please feel free to contact us.

Versatile portrait magnets (e.g. family or employees)

To create these portrait magnets you’ll need our pin board magnets 40 mm and small printed pictures of your choice. Create a template from cardboard using a circle or glass; the diameter should be slightly smaller than that of the magnet. Mark the printed photos according to the template and cut them appropriately. This will probably be easier using curved nail scissors. Now simply glue them to the surfaces of the magnets using a simple glue stick. Optionally the pictures can be covered with transparent self-adhesive binding film or treated with spray varnish to make the surface more resistant. This is recommended especially if the magnets are used in critical environments like close to cooking fumes or in a dusty workshop. This is an easy and versatile way to e.g. pin your beloved to the fridge, to organise the all the daycare children on a magnetic board, or to visually assign employees to tasks on a company board.

Change nostalgic building blocks into modern magnet pins

Since 1958, children have been playing with Danish plastic building blocks; there are boxes of these building blocks in countless cellars - they are far too valuable to be thrown away. With our help you can gift them a second use: Our rod magnet 4x8.47 mm fits perfectly into the hollow spaces at the back of the building blocks. Use silicone adhesive or hot glue to fill the hole, then press the magnet into it and let it dry (best leave it over night). Now the plastic building block isn’t just useful and handy, it’s also quite the eye-catcher and will probably remind of childhood!

CD or DVD as wall decoration - well sorted and nice to look at

Our 12.5x3.2 mm disc magnet fits exactly into the hollow space in the middle of a CD or DVD. Carefully bend open the case, insert the magnet, close the case again – that’s it already. The magnet’s not bulky and won’t cause any problems with the disc in the case. To stick them to a wall or shelf you can use self adhesive metal boards or stripes. This way every one of your disks will have their designated spots while creating an unique look, and still be perfectly usable!

Magnetically closing folding boxes

The folding box is cut out of cardboard as shown in the template below. The cardboard should not be too thick or it will be rather difficult to cleanly bend. In order to fold everything neatly, it is advisable to first lightly scratch the folds with a fine needle, then glue the flaps together and let them dry thoroughly. The glued areas can be temporarily fixed with paper clips while drying. A magnet is glued to each of the designated areas – make sure that they are put correctly so they pull each other (and not repel). Our paired magnets with an adhesive surface are suitable for this purpose; depending on the size of the box and the desired shape, usually one of the medium sizes will work best. Choose a cardboard of your liking, maybe pick a Christmas, spring, or birthday theme. Alternatively you can cover a neutral cardboard shell with fabric, decorative paper, or felt. Just remember that you’ll need stronger magnets the thicker those layers are.

Bookmarks which do not get lost

As every avid reader regrettably knows – bookmarks get lost too easily, or they might damage the pages if they’re clamped to the paper. And who wants a receipt or (worse) dog ear if they can get a beautiful custom made bookmark which won’t get lost? A self made magnetic bookmark can be the solution to this – and it can behold your favourite motives or even your company logo. It can be a nice gift as well. For it a strip about 3-4 cm wide is cut from a piece of cardboard and folded in half lengthways. A magnet is glued to each of the two lower ends; magnets with an adhesive surface are particularly suitable here. Make sure the magnets are positioned in the right way (so the pull to each other). To be sure you can at first just glue one magnet to one side of the cardboard and position the other magnet neatly above it. Then peel off the adhesive film and press the other half of the cardboard to it. Of course there are many variations in size, form, colour, or motive possible.
