Safety Instructions About Working With Permanent Magnets

Magnets do attract or repulse one another - sometimes even despite of big distances! Working with magnets by underestimating their forces will cause a risk of injury. Remove all metallic objects (pens, scissors, keys, tools, ...) when handling magnets. Don't let magnets drop down.

Sintered permanent magnets are all hard, brittle and split in sharp-edged pieces when clashing with others. Avoid uncontrolled collisions. Be aware that skin can bruise because of high attractive forces. Take precautions (gloves, goggles and other kinds of precaution are essential).

Do not try to file, drill, saw magnets - therefore you'd need special diamond tools. There is a big danger of shattering and breaking! Never weld or braze magnets!

Magnets are no toys. Keep children strictly away of strong magnets, of big ferrites and neodymiums in general. If magnets are swallowed there might be danger of life! Don't leave your children alone while handling magnets.

All of our neodymiums are heat-resistant up to 80 degrees Celsius (unless otherwise mentioned), ferrites up to 250 degrees Celsius, AlNiCos up to 450 degrees Celsius (if raw and i.e. not laquered). When heatened higher they irreversibly lose part of their strength.

Magnets do not lose their force in water, but stored clammy or laid into water they might corrode.

Coatings of neodymiums have to be intact (otherwise neodymiums will oxydise). Coating may be worn away due to constant handling.

Ferrites can have jagged edges or fine scratches in their surfaces. This is caused by production method and not a product flaw. Please be careful that you won't be injured by surfaces' imperfection.

Caution: Strong magnetic fields can influence and irritate electronic or mechanical devices - or even destroy them. Keep magnet strips away from magnets. People with cardiac pacemakers keep distance! Further information you will find in the devices' manuals.

Any risks for healthy people are unknown to us - if you are allergic to ceramic or metallic materials you should not handle magnets. As far as we know there are no negative consequences on people caused by magnetic fields neither of neodymiums nor of ferrites or alnicos.

For air-freight shipping of magnetised magnets please observe the packing instruction no. 902 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation.
